There are a number of clubs and societies meeting in the village and we have listed some of them here. You will find contact details for many of them on The Letcombe Register or you can request contact details via our CONTACT form. THE TENNIS CLUB
Letcombe Tennis Club has 2 all weather courts and a practice wall. They are situated at at the Recreation Ground in Letcombe Regis. The club welcomes new members "Whether you are a regular tennis player or haven't picked up a racquet since school". The club offers coaching, fitness classes, club sessions, family tennis and friendly matches with other clubs. Membership year runs from April-March with reduced Winter rates. LETCOMBE ALLOTMENTS
The allotments are on land owned by Warborough Farm, whose owner generously only charges a peppercorn rent. Allotments are subject to availability.
BOOK BUFFS
This is an informal group meeting on the 1st Wednesday of each month at The Greyhound Inn. They discuss two books each month, one of which is supplied by Oxfordshire Libraries and given out a month in advance. For details see The Letcombe Register. New members are welcome (you don't need to have read the books to come along).
CONSERVATION GROUP
The group promotes and participates in projects to improve and protect the local environment. The main activity at the moment is with the development of the Letcombe Valley Community Nature Reserve following a 50-year lease to the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. Activities include walks guided by experts, illustrated talks and surveys of local wildlife. The group assists Letcombe Regis Parish Council and Letcombe Bassett Village Meeting on conservation aspects of planning and other environmental matters. New members are welcome.
LETCOMBE CRICKET CLUB
The club has a full and thriving Sunday friendly fixture list. Wednesday evening cricket takes place from May through to July and the club plays in the Vale Midweek League. New players are welcome.
LETCOMBE FOOTBALL CLUB
The club has two senior teams playing in the Hellenic League. The first team play in Division One East with the reserves in Division Two East. Both teams have regularly fixtures on Saturday afternoons. It has a good standard of football, with the first team playing at 'step 6' of the FA pyramid. New players who would like to play at this level are always welcome.
LETCOMBES’ GARDENING CLUB
This is a small friendly garden club based in Letcombe Regis. It caters for all levels of gardener. Meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm in Letcombe Regis Village Hall September through to April (apart from December) . Meeting details are advertised in The Letcombe Register.
THE LETCOMBES RIDING CLUB
The club have the use of a field on the recreation ground with jumps and a dressage area. Membership is renewable annually and new members (children and adults) are always welcome. .
TABLE TENNIS
The club meets in Letcombe Regis Village Hall and is part of the Didcot and District Table Tennis Association. You can see how the team is performing on the website. Sponsorship from Manulife enabled new equipment to be purchased and the present format of 4 league teams has been in place since 1990. New members are welcome.
WANTAGE COUNTRY MARKET
Markets are held every Friday morning at the Vale and Downland Museum in Wantage, 9.30am - 10.45am. There is a market at the Wantage Farmers' Market (last Saturday of the month) and occasional visits to Richmond Letcombe Regis. The market offers wholesome traditional home-baked food with no added preservatives, no trans-fats, no E numbers. Also available: Home-made jams, marmalade and pickles, local honey, eggs, vetgetables, fruit and plants in season and a small craft range. Residents of Letcombe Regis are among the regular producers for the market and new producers are always welcome.
WI
The Letcombes WI has members from both Letcombe Regis, Letcombe Bassett and from further field. Visitors are always welcome at any meeting, gentlemen included. The WI is non-political and non-sectarian and all are welcome.
Monthly meetings are usually held in Letcombe Regis Village Hall on the second Monday of the month at 7:30pm. We have a short meeting followed by a talk or demonstration on various topics of interest. At each meeting we have refreshment time when we discuss forthcoming events, catch up with friends and maybe purchase home-made goodies from our trading table.
We enjoy a range of activities including a monthly scrabble evening, a dining club and cinema and theatre visits. In the summer we have included in our events programme visits to nearby places of interest, gardens and local walks.
AGE UK (OXFORDSHIRE)
Age UK aim to provide companionship, advice and support for the millions who have no one to turn to. Call in Time is their national telephone befriending service, where we match a lonely, older person with a volunteer befriender, and they have a weekly friendship call.
